Here comes Suzy Snowflake

The 1st of December. Winter has arrived here.

The old empty church across the field.

Out back.

The small dots in the center are my neighbors out enjoying the snow (deer).

What I give thanks for

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving thanks to my fantastic children! There were 5 dogs, 3 cats and 10 humans ( humans still outnumbered animals). We all had lots to eat, maybe a little too much, and there were tons of laughter and much happiness.

Shelley brought advent calendars for all.

Wow! Just like when we were kids.

What does yours look like?

I like mine best.

Don't take my picture.

Chillin'

The teeniest of the animals.
The biggest of the animals, they were all VERY good!

Welcome, Enter if you DARE!!!!

I began my Halloween with a trip into town where I met Alvin, Theodore and Simon.

Here we are, back home, come on in.
My handiwork.

I finished Halloween with Lauri and Sanjay and fireworks to celebrate Dewali.

UFOs have landed

One of my favorite times of year here- harvest! The farmers start early in the day and keep going all through the night til finished. I could sit outside and watch for hours, especially at night. At night the field is dotted with the lights of all the working equipment, I feel an excitement and energy in the air that lifts my spirits and imagine that the UFOs have landed.

Sophie meets the BIG guys

Sophie came to visit and meet the big guys. Rudy was so good with her. He almost fell over making sure he didn't step on her. Sophie obviously thinks she is just as big as they are. She kept going after Rudy and trying to get his feet- she's fearless!

Rosie wasn't sure what to make of this tiny creature. Sophie kept trying to bite her nose. Rosie wasn't quite coordinated enough yet to let Sophie loose with her, we didn't want to chance a mishap.

Little Miss " You don't scare me"

Answer to " Name that Vine"

( Drum roll) The answer is " Devil's Darning Needles"!!

Strange Creature

I found this hairy creature waiting for me on my side door when I came home the other day. Isn't it great what you can find if you just keep your eyes open and observe the world around you.

Look at what I found in my freezer!

If you know me fairly well, you would know that when I find an interesting insect I tend to put in my freezer. The other day I opened my freezer and found this! I believe that one of my little friends caught this in a creek near me and his uncle put it in my freezer. I certainly was surprised when I found this crayfish. Normally they are brown but they were kind enough to cook it first causing it to turn this pretty color.

Time to play "Name that Vine"

I found this vine ,growing in my thicket, on trees and shrubs. I have searched and searched but can not identify it. Soooooooooo, let's play "Name that vine". Do you know what it is?

The night fog

In the late evening, just after sunset, the fog comes rolling in across the field. You can sit and watch it creep up until it surrounds you.

Through the corn!

Garden

My vegetable garden is coming to the end of it's season. Mostly tomatoes, winter squash, some corn and peppers still ripening.
